Good Afternoon William Penn High School Families and Scholars –
This is Ms. Brewington, School Principal.
It’s hard to believe that summer vacation is over and that we will be opening the doors of William Penn High School for the 2022-2023 school year!!!  We are looking forward to a great school year with a continued focus on academics and opportunities along with a renewed focus on expectations.
On August 29th, we will welcome the Class of 2026 Scholars for Freshman Day!  We are excited to meet our new William Penn High School Colonials.  This day will be dedicated to our new 9th grade scholars learning all about the expectations, programs and opportunities available at William Penn.  There will also be a parent meeting at 7:35 am in the auditorium.  Don’t worry if you cannot attend; The meeting will be livestreamed or recorded for anyone who is interested.
All scholars should report to school on August 30th.  This will be the first day of school for scholars in grades 10 through 12.  Students should report to homeroom on August 30th.
Scholars who have been approved to participate in our choice virtual academy program should have received a call and an email to the address we have on file  about program specifics, schedules and start dates.  At this time, the choice virtual academy program is closed for enrollment.
There is no school on September 2nd and September 5th for the holiday weekend.
A few important reminders for all scholars and parents/guardians:
Doors open for school at 7:05 am and scholars are expected to be in their first block class by 7:20 am.
Scholars are expected to be on-time to each class every period.
Scholars are expected to remain on the property upon arrival and remain in school for the entire day unless they have an approved early dismissal or early release.   Scholars may not leave for breakfast, lunch, etc.
Food and/or beverage deliveries, such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc are STRICTLY PROHIBITED during the school day.  We will not call scholars down to the office to pick up any food deliveries.
Dismissal begins at 1:50 pm.  All scholars are expected to leave the property by 2:00 pm unless they are being supervised by a staff member.
Dress and/or grooming that violates the Colonial School District Guidelines for dress and/or dress that draws excessive attention or that hinders identification will not be permitted.   This includes but is not limited to:
Hats
Hoods
Ski masks
Sunglasses
These items may be confiscated and returned by the end of the day or parents may be asked to come to school to retrieve them after a parent conference is held.
We understand that cell phones and personal devices have great utility, but use of these items has increasingly become a source of distraction, antisocial behavior and conflict at school.  The presence of cell phones and personal devices in the classroom can be detrimental to scholar performance. We believe that we can best serve our scholars by maintaining an optimal learning environment free of non-educational technological distraction.
Use of cell phones and/or personal electronic devices are not permitted during school hours unless the scholar is given explicit permission from authorized personnel per the “Zone Procedures” listed below . This includes, but is not limited to, the unauthorized recording and/or posting online of audio, video, or still image files.
Scholars may use their personal cell phones and devices in an office or use a staff center telephone in an emergency with permission by the administrator or secretary.
Scholars are expected to adhere our Personal Technology Zone Procedures
We thank you in advance for your support and assistance with helping ensure your scholar’s success for the 2022-2023 school year.  As partners in your scholar’s education, together we will provide a positive environment where scholars can learn and grow, be present and engaged, and R.I.S.E. to great expectations.
Looking forward to a wonderful school year!!!
