Dear William Penn Families:

Please be advised that there will be an additional presence of Delaware State Police (DSP) officers on campus when students return to school tomorrow.

As you may know by now, DSP have arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male from Wilmington, DE for reckless endangering and related charges following a shot fired at William Penn High School last week. Despite this arrest, we believe students and staff will feel more secure with extra officers on site. Additional district and school personnel will also be present in order to support students and staff as they resume classes.

The blatant disregard of school policies and the law will not be tolerated by the Colonial School District (CSD).  WE will take the necessary steps to improve school climate throughout CSD and especially at William Penn where this unfortunate incident took place.

Administrators will continue to discuss how we may have better communicated the situation as it unfolded in real time. Our top priority and concern is always to ensure the safety of everyone inside of our buildings. As with any emergency situation, we acknowledge that there is always room for improvement. We hear and value the feedback we’ve received from students, staff, and families. Counselors will be available to students and staff who wish to avail themselves of their services.
