George Read Families,
We want to inform you that a George Read student brought an airsoft toy gun to school
this morning that looked very much like a real weapon. A student saw the toy gun and immediately reported it to the teacher. The administration was notified, the backpack and student were secured without incident, and the matter is being referred to the Delaware State Police. At no time was there a threat to students or staff. We want to applaud the teacher and student in the classroom who followed our safe school directives to report anything suspicious as soon as they see it. George Read students and staff reacted quickly to make sure everyone was safe. As always, the safety of all staff and students is our top priority and we will continue to teach our students the value of speaking up. Thank you for your continued support.
Please remind your student that weapons and/or lookalikes (even toys) are not permitted in school. This is outlined in the Student Code of Conduct that can be found on the Colonial School District website.
