Senior Spotlight: Zachary Gonzalez

What major are you in at WP?
-Video Design and Communication

What are your plans for after graduation?
-After graduation, I plan on attending Del Tech College. I will be majoring in Visual Communication Technology Multi-Media Design. After my 2 years at Del-Tech, I plan on going to Wilmington University to continue my education and receive my bachelor’s degree.

What are you passionate about outside of school?
-I’m very passionate about art. I love to draw, I’m an amazing artist. I also do excellent work in sketching, painting, and crafting.

Any Awards, Scholarships or Accomplishments?
-During my 4 years of high school, I was awarded 7 honor roll certificates. April 2020 my digital media teacher Mr. Phillips awarded me a Certificate of Achievement, DACCTE AWARD NOMINEE in the field of Digital Media.

What’s one word you would use to describe yourself and why?
-I would describe myself as “creative” because when there are times when I don’t understand something or if I’m stuck on a problem, I think of different ideas to make the situation better that no one else would think of. When I’m painting or drawing, I have a very broad imagination to design my portraits to make them look exquisite

What teacher made an impact on you and why?
-Khalilah Ali was my English teacher from 9th to 12th grade, in the Castle Program. Before I attended her class, I had difficulties in reading comprehension. Her class sessions helped me to improve my reading comprehension. Ms. Ali would also take the time to help me improve my reading and writing. Ms. Ali cared about me and wanted me to be successful in my academics. I am grateful to her.

What person, who isn’t a teacher, made an impact on you and why?
-My mom has impacted my life in so many ways. She has always said, that she’s my “#1 fan”, and she is. My mom is more than my mother. She’s my friend, my advisor, my advocate, and my teacher. Her impact on life has brought me to the level of success that I have accomplished. My mom always has encouraging words for me to push myself and do better. My mom is excited for my future, and I love her for this. Thank you, Mom.

What sports or clubs are you involved in?
-Art Club and Stage Crew

What’s your favorite high school memory?
-My friends; James, Robert, Cameron, Vaughn, Peter, and Jonathan. We’re not just friends in school, we are also friends outside of school. Pizza and video games, I have awesome memories with these guys. We are friends for life.

What’s something you hope to be remembered for?
-I hope to be remembered as the “man who overcame many obstacles.” It may not sound praiseworthy to most people, but for a person like me who has autism, many teachers were proud of me for succeeding throughout the years.

What’s your favorite quote?
-“Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” -Maya Angelou

-Thank you, Ms. Davis, for helping me to improve my art skills, and techniques.
-Thank Ms. Bicklemen, for all the support you have given me over the years. You have been a part of my learning development since I was 4 years old, and I will miss you.
