What are your plans for after graduation?
I plan on participating in the seed program at Del Tech and Wilmington University so I can work towards my bachelor’s degree in visual communications.

What are you passionate about outside of school? I love all things creative!
Painting, drawing, writing, reading, etc. I even want to get into crochet. I’m also very passionate about social justice issues, and I’ve been trying to become more active in fighting for minorities and otherwise silenced groups. Social equity has always been extremely important to me due to my upbringing as a biracial woman with very progressive parents.

Any Awards, Scholarships or Accomplishments?
• I’ve received Honor roll every marking period of high school (don’t want to jinx it now haha)
• Seed Scholarship
• I have been offered several scholarships from colleges, totaling to about $360,400
• The presidential award for Academic excellence
• Several awards for Academic excellence in humanities

• Every core course I’ve taken in my high school career has either been honors or AP

What’s one word you would use to describe yourself and why?
Determined.
I’ve gotten myself into a lot of a lot of unpleasant situations, whether it be switching to a school I didn’t like, taking a difficult class that turns my brain to mush, or sticking up for my beliefs in the face of adversity. But I’ve never quit. I stuck out the schools I’ve gone to, I have studied day and night to teach myself the concepts I couldn’t understand in class, and no matter how much it may hurt to have done so, I have never stopped sticking up for what I feel is right (maybe stubborn would be a better word). Things don’t always go my way – but at the end of the day, I always wipe the tears and dust myself off and I try again in the morning, because you can call me whatever you want: hard-headed, slow, whatever. But you can’t call me a quitter.

What teacher made an impact on you and why?
– Ms. Borst, my AP Psychology teacher was there for all of her students, no matter what. When I was too anxious to eat lunch in the cafeteria, or when I was on the verge of a panic attack during an aide period, she’d just sit down and talk with me. If I was having a tough time in class, she would take the time to sit with me and make sure I understood the material. I have never met a teacher who cared so much about the success of her students.
– Mr. Desjardin is one of my favorite teachers for many of the same reasons. I can be scared to ask questions sometimes, and it can be terrifying to turn in work with the uncertainty of whether or not you did it right. Mr. Desjardin never let me sit with that uncertainty. Whenever I had a million and one questions on the new material, he answered them all and never got annoyed. He’d sit me down and walk me through the material in a way that I could understand, even if he had to teach it a little different because I couldn’t absorb things the same way my classmates did. I became his student aide this past year, and going to his class during 4th period was the highlight of my day, as he continued to be my teacher, but he treated me as a peer. He may act a bit crazy at times, but I have never met a teacher who put that much effort into making sure his students truly learned.

What person, who isn’t a teacher, made an impact on you and why?
The lunch ladies!
The cafeteria staff at William Penn may be the nicest group of people on this planet. When I’d grab breakfast and a lovely woman would compliment my eyeliner, or when I would get lunch and as I put in my lunch number, I’d be told how lovely my smile was. My day could be turned from awful to superb within a matter of words.

What major are you in at WP?
Behavioral Sciences

What sports or clubs are you involved in?
National Honor Society
GSA
Student council
Student focus group

What’s your favorite high school memory?
Spending all day volunteering for the Special Olympics Basketball event alongside my friends, and then at the end of the day just having a little pizza party. It seems small, but seeing how happy we made those kids, and then just talking about what silly mistakes we made when trying to figure out the medals or events properly when it was all over was so rewarding.

What’s something you hope to be remembered for?
I hope to be remembered for helping others and always trying my best. I can be a class clown at times, but I am always serious when it comes to my work, and I’ve always tried to help those succeed when I saw them struggle.

What’s your favorite quote? “
Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.”

– Carl Bard

Here is your opportunity to say thank you to anyone and everyone who made you the success that you are. What would you like to say to those people?

Thank you for never giving up on me, even when I gave up on myself. Thank you for seeing me as the individual I could be, rather than the mistakes I’ve made. Thank you for teaching me my worth and to never accept anything less. It may not always seem like it, but every single one of you has contributed to my successes, and I hope I can return the favor some day.
