Food Pantry

Greetings Colonial Community! Communities In Schools of Delaware is proud to announce that William Penn is hosting a Food Pantry serving the William Penn High School, George Read Middle and The Wallin School Communities! In an effort to make sure no child in Delaware goes hungry, this program is designed to stretch family’s food budget who are in need to access by providing access to food and hygiene products on a monthly basis or as needed. Families can shop for free from the pantry, and collect up to 30 pounds of food and up to 5 pounds of non-food items of their choice each visit.

The Food Pantry is here to serve district employees, students, and their families. Families who are eligible for the Food Pantry include students who financially qualify for other federal assistance programs such as; SNAP benefits (aka food stamps), WIC, TANF and/or experiencing financial hardships. In addition to the Food Pantry program, we are also hosting the Backpack Program. The Backpack Program provides food to William Penn students for weekends and holidays when school is not in session and federal school meal programs are not available (there is no income eligibility to qualify). Backpacks are stocked with kid-friendly, nutritious foods including; shelf-stable milk and juice, peanut butter and jelly, granola bars, apple sauce, cereal and more. They are distributed on Fridays or the last day before a holiday or vacation by the guidance counselors in a discreet manner. If you have any questions regarding eligibility, or if you would like to apply for the programs, families can contact Communities in Schools at 302-323-2800 extension 3126 or via email at Audrey.Boney@colonial.k12.de.us
