Hello William Penn Colonials!!!

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Ms. Brewington and I am the proud Principal of William Penn High School. Typically at the beginning of the school year, the Principal sends a welcome letter out to families at the start of but I decided that since we started out this semester a little different, I was going to do something a little different and send out a video message to all of our Colonials!!!

First, let me start by saying how proud I am of all the hard work and dedication that every student, parent, teacher, and staff member has exhibited throughout the first semester of this school year!!! I know for all of us, this was not the school year we envisioned, but you are making it work and I am confident that we will continue to do so.

Now, I would like to welcome everyone to the 2nd Semester and give you some information about what semester 2 will look like at William Penn!!! We are so excited about beginning this semester by offering students an opportunity for instruction through hybrid and remote learning! We will have 2 hybrid groups – Hybrid Black and Hybrid Cherry – in honor of our school colors. Students who are Hybrid “B” (for Black) will report to school for in-person learning on Mondays
and Tuesdays and zoom into class from home on Wednesdays, Thursdays. Students who are Hybrid “C” (for Cherry) will report to school on Wednesdays and Thursdays and zoom into class from home on Mondays, Tuesdays. Students in both hybrid B and hybrid C groups will zoom from home on Fridays. All of our students who chose to remain 100% virtual will zoom into class Monday through Friday.

Since every student will see their teachers everyday for instruction, whether it’s in-person or on zoom, all students will be on the same schedule for class periods. This means that teachers will simultaneously teach students who are hybrid students at the same time as students who are zooming from home. School will promptly begin at 7:20 am and dismissal will be at 11:45 pm. These times are for all students – where they are hybrid or remote. We will continue to have 4 class periods throughout the day – periods 5, 6, 7, and 8. In the afternoon, all students will have an opportunity to zoom back in to school to attend small group instruction. Using this time for extra help and to meet with teachers is highly encouraged.

Just as a reminder, we want all students and staff to be safe while in the building. Therefore we will be following the CDC and Governor Carney’s recommendations and guidelines for mask wearing, social distancing, cleaning, etc. on a daily basis! Although this NEW start to the 2nd semester at William Penn High School is going to be very different than any other 2nd semester we’ve ever had, we are still thrilled about a fresh start by having some of our students back in the building and we are equally as enthusiastic about continuing to provide quality instruction to our students who are staying remote.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone, whether it’s on zoom or for hybrid learning, at the start of the 2nd Semester on February 1st!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!!!
Ms. Brewington
