School Elections Eligibility
To vote in public school elections you must:
- Be a citizen of the United States and the State of Delaware.
- Be domiciled within the school district for which the election is being conducted.
- Be 18 years of age on or before the day of the election.
You must also provide proof of identity and address. This includes:
- Delaware driver’s license
- Delaware ID card
- Work ID card with photo and home address
- U. S. postal material with street address
A voter may also show other reasonable documents which by themselves or in conjunction with another document identifies the person and their address such as:
- A State of Delaware vehicle registration card
- A recent utility bill
- A rent receipt
- A signed Social Security Card
- A telephone directory listing in a current phone book
Absentee Ballot
Unable to go to a polling place? Registered voters can apply for an absentee ballot for the referendum by accessing the voter portal at https://ivote.de.gov. The Department of Elections will send these absentee ballots through the U.S. Mail, as Delaware Code prohibits electronic delivery or return of referendum ballots.

Support for Seniors: YES, the State of Delaware does offer tax relief for seniors.
Individuals 65 and older, who meet a residency requirement (3 years if you established residency before 12/31/2017; 10 years if you established residency after that date), are eligible for a school tax credit of up to $400 on their principle residence. A School Tax Credit Application can be found at: https://www.nccde.org/182/Tax-Exemptions. Seniors may also apply for additional reductions in sewer and county property tax based on income.
