Summer Learning in Colonial

Learning doesn’t end after the final bell on the last day of school!

Colonial offers summer programs for academic enrichment and credit recovery. In the summer of 2023, WE will offer a mix of online/virtual and in-person summer learning opportunities.

Extended School Year & 12 month

Special Education programming is offered through the summer for students who qualify per federal and state guidelines. At your student’s annual IEP meeting, summer opportunities will be discussed. Based on his/her needs and supporting data, the team will decide if any of these are appropriate for your child. If you have questions, please contact your school’s Special Education Coordinator.

*All programs will meet four days per week in person, Monday through Thursday. Please note that there will be no programming on Tuesday, July 4.*

Summer Collab: Tyler’s Camp
Colonial School District & SummerCollab partner to offer Tyler’s Camp.  Tyler’s Camps are offered at no cost to Colonial School District students during select weeks Monday through Thursday. 

Tyler’s Camps are SummerCollab’s elementary and middle school summer learning programs, which welcome students from diverse backgrounds and interests to engage in exploratory, educational and fun programming. At Tyler’s Camp, we execute inspiring, confidence-building experiences that fuel student motivation and success during the academic school year.

Tyler’s Camp was founded as a place where student choice, voice and self direction are priority. Kids explore their passions, curiosities, and interests, whether it means painting, sculpting, music, performing in a play, dance or athletics. SummerLabs feature STEM-centered programs that bring hands-on experiences with 21st Century Skills and technologies to campers.

Summer Learning Academy at Carrie Downie- CCD Camp

The Summer Learning Academy at Carrie Downie Elementary School is a Summer Camp approach to meeting the needs of local community students who attend Carrie Downie Elementary School throughout the school year. Carrie Downie Elementary School and Community Collaboration of Delaware (CCD) have teamed up to provide local youth with an all-day holistic summer camp experience. The target population for this camp is rising first through rising fifth grade Carrie Downie Elementary Students. Camp will be held at Carrie Downie Elementary School, Monday Through Thursday, July 10-August 3, 2023 from 8:00-3:30.

Summer Learning Academy at Southern: PAL Summer Camp- 

The PAL at Southern Elementary School is a Summer Camp approach to meeting the needs of local community students who attend Southern Elementary School throughout the school year. Southern Elementary School and PAL of Delaware have teamed up to provide local youth with a half-day holistic summer camp experience. The target population for this camp is rising first through rising fifth grade Southern Elementary Students. Camp will be held at Southern Elementary School, Monday Through Thursday, July 10-August 3, 2023 from 9:00am-2:00pm.

SAT preparation for rising 11th and 12th grade students

SAT preparation for rising 11th and 12th grade students who currently attend William Penn High School. Students will learn strategies, timing techniques (stress management-feeling less rushed) and specific content (critical reading or math)-refresher of earlier math material. Students will review several practice section tests. Students will strengthen their knowledge of the overall test and scoring, plus gain confidence and reduce anxiety.  

Students will be provided a specialized SAT instructor through the partnership between Back to Basics and Colonial School District. Homework will be assigned each session to reinforce skills being provided in the sessions. A prep book will be provided to the student(S)by Colonial School District upon registration.

High School Credit Recovery

William Penn will offer virtual credit recovery courses in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, French, Health and Electives for students that have failed any of these courses during the school year. This is only available for current William Penn High School Students. The cost is free and students may register up to two courses. Registration is limited and will close once the courses are filled. Check WPHS website starting at 8 am on June 26, 2023 for more information on how to register online. If you register online, you must contact your school counselor to confirm which courses to register for. The counselors’ contact information is provided below. Courses will run from July 5, 2023 through July 27, 2023 (or when students complete their course requirements).  These courses will be taught virtually with live video conferencing support Monday through Thursday (9 AM-11 AM session 1, 1 PM – 3 PM session 2).
