Nick Wolfe
Principal
Colonial School District in New Castle, Delaware, and is currently serving as the Principal of George Read Middle School, where he has been for the last 8 years.
He is very passionate about supporting students and families through the difficulties of the transitions into and out of the middle school years. Moreover, Nick’s enjoyment of learning about the social sciences & their connection to education helps him continually evolve and refine his approach to school leadership.
Nick earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History Education from the University of Delaware before serving as a high school Civics & AP Human Geography teacher in the Colonial School District. He resides in Wilmington, Delaware, with his wife & fellow educator, Michelle, and their three sons.
Katy Corey
Assistant Principal
Assistant Principal Katy Corey began her career in the Colonial School District more than 17 years ago as a 5th-grade teacher at Carrie Downie Elementary before moving on the secondary level as a school administrator Spending the last six years at George Read, she is a trusted familiar face to students, their families, and staff. “As a mom of two learners myself, one in college and one in middle school, I know firsthand the importance of partnership between home and school in the success of our children. I believe that our partnership to support the growth, empowerment, and enrichment of our students, elevating their voices and building their confidence throughout their middle school career will positively impact their success in the future,” she says. Corey graduated from Le Moyne College in her hometown of Syracuse, New York. She earned a Master’s degree from Wilmington University. As a school administrator, Corey says the words of poet/author Maya Angelou guide her when interacting with George Read Knights- “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” In her spare time, Corey loves to read, run, travel, and spend time with her family.
Barry Zehnder Jr.
Assistant Principal
Assistant Principal Barry Zehnder Jr., enjoys forging relationships with students and their families saying, “As a parent of a middle school student, my goal as an administrator is to provide students and staff with a safe environment where they feel supported and have the best opportunity to feel successful.” Zehnder was an assistant principal at William Penn before moving to his present position. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware followed by a Master’s in Education Leadership from Wilmington University.
