About

Our school name honors the memory of an important New Castle resident, George Read, a signer of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Our student body resides in sections of greater New Castle and Wilmington. We have a diverse student population from the elementary schools in Colonial and from many countries around the world. Some pupils come to us as Choice students from other districts in New Castle County or they move to Delaware relocating from other states across the nation.  George Read also provides specialized educational programming in an inclusive setting for adolescents who may have a continuum of disabilities, including physical, cognitive and/or health-related.  Our school colors are gold and white with our mascot being the Golden Knights. Parents and staff here embrace a collaborative decision-making process for educational and extracurricular opportunities for every student.
