Who WE Are – Valerie Hickman
Valerie Hickman started her teaching career at McCullough Middle School in 1996 after earning her Master’s degree in Early Education. After teaching at several schools in the district, it didn’t take Hickman long to realize her love for Colonial as she aspired to become an administrator. Now an assistant principal at Eisenberg Elementary, she says her greatest reward is helping students reach their potential through fostering a love of learning, and working through challenges to reach their goals. With patience, kindness, and a firm expectation that students become successful and respectful citizens, Hickman takes pride in the sense of family fostered in what is called “Berg Nation.” As an educator she is inspired by the words of writer, Maya Angelou-”I have learned that people will forget what you said , people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you make them feel.” Hickman makes her students feel special every day when she walks the halls of Eisenberg Elementary School!
