Who WE Are – Jeannette Latchford

Lead Cook at William Penn High School, and president of the Colonial Food Services Workers Association.

Cherry red and black runs through the veins of Jeannette Latchford. She has worked in the District for 14 years and currently serves in two capacities–as a lead cook at William Penn High School, and president of the Colonial Food Services Workers Association. Latchford has lived in the District for 29 years and two of her three children graduated from the school where she works. “I am so proud to be a part of the Colonial School District Nutrition Services Department!” Latchford says. She is especially proud of how her co-workers responded when Governor John Carney ordered school buildings to close back in March. “The pandemic highlighted how strong the Power of WE is in Nutrition Services…it was heartwarming to see how many of our Nutrition Services employees immediately stepped up to help figure out a new way to feed our kids. We managed to completely change the way we do everything almost overnight and we ended up serving almost 300,000 meals to kids in our District who needed them,” she says. Latchford represents about 100 nutrition services employees in the District saying, “Although we knew it before, WE ARE ESSENTIAL and the Power of WE is strong!”
