Who We Are – David Ostheimer
David Ostheimer took his love for learning across the globe. The first-grade teacher at Wilbur Elementary school was one of 45 educators from the United States and Canada who was selected to be a Grosvenor Teacher Fellow sponsored by the National Geographic Education and Lindblad Expedition. For seven days in October of 2019, Ostheimer, along with other scientists, educators and guests from around the world explored the Galapagos Islands where they learned about rare and diverse animal and plant life. Ostheimer shared his adventures with his students when he returned to Wilbur.
“Bringing my experiences back to the classroom can help students understand how amazing our planet is and that they, and we, have a responsibility to not only learn about it but to also experience it and take care of it,” he says.
Ostheimer applauds the Colonial School District for supporting professional development, saying it helps teachers to become better for their students. As for working in the district, he says, “Colonial Nation means we are working towards a common goal: parents, bus drivers, nutrition workers, custodians, nurses, secretaries, district administrators, principals, paraprofessionals, and teachers, all work to give our students the best opportunity to go out and live their lives to the fullest. I am proud to be a Colonial!”
