Lisa Mims is not only a two-time building Teacher of the Year honoree, she is also a busy fifth-grade teacher who gladly spends extra time with students as co-coach of a LEGO League team. Mims, who loves all STEM-related activities, started the league at Pleasantville three years ago. The school hosted a competition this year for 18 local teams, and even though Pleasantville’s team didn’t win this time around Mims has her kids piecing together plans for future competitions because she says the goal is for students to learn, work as a team, and most of all, to have fun! When Mims isn’t teaching, or spending time after school and on weekends with the LEGO League, she also represents teachers as a member of the Colonial Education Association.
