Who WE Are – Jovanna Cardenti

It’s tough to miss Jovanna Cardenti around William Penn as she does somersaults across the floor as the captain of the high school’s dance troupe. Jo Jo, as she is fondly called, is also a member of student council and the yearbook, but this senior’s school year was topped when she was named the 2019 Homecoming Queen by her peers. That’s not the first time Jo Jo has been crowned. She’s Delaware’s 2019 Teen Idol, a title earned in a talent contest sponsored by Aids Delaware, and in 2018 she was crowned Ms. Juneteenth.

“I just feel like to get the full high school experience you have to be involved,”
she says. As for William Penn, “ You have to see it to believe it. We have all the career pathways and a bunch of amazing clubs,” she says. Jo Jo chose Allied Health as a career pathway and she aspires to be an NBA trainer after attending an HBCU (Historically Black College/University) when she graduates from William Penn. In her spare time Jo Jo works with William Penn’s athletic trainer so she can gain experience in her chosen professional career. “I feel like everybody should give this school a chance. I’m proud to be a William Penn student!”
