Investigations in Number, Data, and Space: Math

Investigations is the math curriculum that Colonial School District uses. It is a K-5 program that was developed at TERC in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This program intends to children of different ages and backgrounds understand the foundations of number and operations, geometry, data, measurement, and early algebra. This website provides helpful tools for teachers, students and parents, including access to the curriculum by grade level and math content, as well as a “For Families” section.

A lot of our curriculum is stored in a Learning Management System entitled Schoology in 2nd – 5th grades.

Mathematics Standards

FOSS: Science

FOSS (Full Option Science System) is the inquiry based science curriculum that Colonial School District uses. The website has a great deal of information about the science kits, along with games and activities organized by grade level. There is an information section for parents and teachers, along with articles and newsletters.

Reading, writing, speaking, and listening curriculum is provided for staff and students through our learning management system called Schoology.  It follows the progressions of Common Core.

English Language Arts Standards

This writing model uses common language for teachers and students to communicate about the various characteristics of writing and establishes clear examples of what good writing looks like. The traits taught include ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation.
