New Castle, DE- Colonial School District officials are saddened to learn that a 16-year old William Penn High School student was killed this afternoon when the car she was driving collided with a school bus on Memorial Drive in New Castle around 3:40 p.m. Three 16-year old female passengers in the car were hurt, one with serious life-threatening injuries. Out of respect for the families, the names of the students are being withheld at this time. Passengers on the bus, all students from Eisenberg Elementary School, were shaken but physically unharmed. Two ten-year old boys were taken to DuPont Children’s Hospital out of precaution, but were released to their parents.
Counselors, administrators, and crisis teams will be on hand at schools tomorrow to assist any students who wish to speak to them or appear to have difficulty dealing with the tragic news.
The police investigation continues, no charges have been filed at this time.
“This is a heartbreaking time for all of us in Colonial Nation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the families involved,” said Superintendent Dr. Dusty Blakey.
