New Castle, DE– Thanks to a partnership started last school year with Paul Mitchell The School- Delaware, 20-25 homeless/needy elementary school students will receive basic hair care services tomorrow, Tuesday, December 10, 2019, by cosmetology students on site. The make-overs will occur between 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. at the school located at 1420 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. As part of the partnership, students from William Penn, and Wallin High Schools will also receive a presentation about the hair care industry and perform hands-on exercises.

“For families facing financial challenges, hair care is often done in motel rooms, shelters, or wherever the children are staying, or it often goes neglected entirely. Tomorrow’s visit comes just in time for the holidays. It’s a priceless gift that lifts the self-esteem of our needy students, most  of whom have never experienced salon services before,” said Family Crisis Therapist Molly Perdue. This is the second year for Operation Hair Care. Last school year students visited Paul Mitchell the  School on four occasions. In addition to tomorrow, Operation Hair Care will take place again on  Tuesday, February 25, 2020, and Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Only elementary students with signed photo release forms can be photographed; all others can be photographed in an unidentifiable fashion. Interviews can be conducted with students, family crisis therapists, or counselors in attendance along with  any staff and students from the high schools or  Paul Mitchell the School-Delaware.
