We are aware of the recent federal actions related to immigration enforcement and LGBTQIA+ legal protections. We recognize that these developments have caused fear and concern among these communities and those who love and support them. We continue to monitor the situation and are developing plans for how to navigate within this new environment but we want to reassure ALL of our staff, students and families that you are safe and welcomed within our schools.
While some may question why a statement like this is needed or even appropriate, we know that students cannot learn when they are afraid. We also know that when our staff and students can be themselves without concern for their safety or well-being, they are more successful and productive. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our Colonial community includes all categories of staff, students, and families.
Colonial has long prided itself on its diversity and a strong sense of community; we have always been there for our students, our families and our community. That will never change. Our commitment to equity and inclusion is not a distraction from our core mission of education. It is a vital part of reaching every student and bringing out their potential. And it is an essential part of creating a workplace that attracts the best and brightest talent in every field. The Power of WE is meaningless if anyone is excluded.
