New Castle, DE- The Colonial School District’s Nutrition Services Division will kick-off its free Summer Feeding program on Wednesday, June 19, from 11:30-12:30. Special guests will be Delaware’s First Lady Tracey Quillen Carney who will act as a “Smoothie Master” by making delicious, healthy smoothies for guests. The American Dairy Council Northeast, a local dairy farmer and Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant will also be on hand to interact with neighborhood children. This is the second year Avant has attended the Summer Feeding Kick-off.

“As a former professional football player, fueling my body with healthy foods and exercising all year long, especially during the off-season-allowed me to perform at my best, both on and off the field.  I’m glad to know there are free summer meals available to children so they have access to nutritious
food and fun activities, and they’ll be ready to learn when they go back to school in the fall,” Avant said.

The “Smooth into Summer” event will take place at Eisenberg Elementary School, located at 27 Landers Lane, New Castle, DE 19720. There will be games, giveaways, activities and of course, a nutritious lunch served to all who attend.

“We realize the importance of seeing that students in our district have access to healthy food during the summer vacation, and we take great pride in providing them with the meals they are used to receiving during the school year,” said Nutrition Services Supervisor Paula Angelucci.
