Board of Education Procedures for Appointment of a Board Member
At its meeting of August 19, 2025, the Colonial School District Board of Education declared a vacancy from Nominating District G. The Board of Education will accept nominations of candidates for appointment to the Board as a representative of Nominating District G. Nominating District G generally includes the residential areas adjacent to and bounded by Kirkwood St Georges Road, Route 13, Red Lion Road, Route 1 and Porter Road. Citizens residing in the Colonial School District may nominate any citizen who lives in Nominating District G, who is qualified by law to serve on the Board of Education, and who consents to the nomination. Citizens who live in Nominating District G may also nominate themselves. To qualify, a person must be a citizen of the state and resident of the district qualified to vote in a school board election and complete the criminal background check and be certified as an eligible candidate by Dept of Elections. He or she may not hold a paid
position subject to the rules and regulations of the school board.
Written nominations may be sent to the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Jeffrey D. Menzer, at the Colonial School District Administration Building, 318 East Basin Road, New Castle, Delaware 19720. They must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025.
At the Board of Education meeting on September 9, 2025, the Board will interview candidates and make the appointment. The person appointed will serve until June 30, 2026
An election will be held in May 2026, to determine who will serve as the Board member from Nominating District G from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2028.For additional information, call the Superintendent’s office at 323-2710.
