Truancy Prevention and Intervention

The Office of Truancy Prevention and Intervention’s primary responsibility is to monitor student attendance and implement members a variety of strategies to prevent truancy and to also provide resources to school staff members and families that may address the underlying causes for truancy.  This office is staffed with two visiting teachers who provide guidance to staff members for proactively addressing poor attendance issues and for documenting all truancy-related actions using our Truancy Tracker system through the Data Service Center.  Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • making home visits;
  • coordinating truancy filings and representing Colonial School District at all Truancy Court hearings;
  • reviewing and monitoring all Truancy Tracker documents for accuracy and completeness; and
  • coordinating monthly, school-based truancy prevention meetings with administrators, truancy contacts, school nurses, and other school personnel as appropriate.

All operations of the Office of Truancy Prevention and Intervention follow the requirements presented in Delaware Code Title 14 –  Chapter 27 – School Attendance.
