School Board Elections 2021

WHEN IS THE SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION?

• Tuesday May 11, 2021: polls open at 7 am and close at 8 pm

AM I ELIGIBLE?

• During the pandemic, anyone can vote absentee ( it is legal to check the box “ sick”)

• You do NOT have to be a registered voter

• Be a citizen of the United States who is 18 or older

• Reside within the school district for which the election is being conducted.

WHY DOES VOTING IN SCHOOL BOARDS MATTER? 

• They oversee large budgets and make critical financial decisions

• They decide when and how your school taxes will be raised and spent

• They are responsible for student learning

• They hire the school district superintendent and hold them accountable

HOW TO VOTE BY MAIL DETAILS:

• Not casting your vote at a polling place on election day

What are the deadlines?

• Return the application no later than May 7, 2021 for your vote to be counted.

How can I get an absentee ballot application and vote?

1. GET THE APPLICATION

   • Download a copy of the form: https://elections.delaware.gov/pubs/pdfs/absentee_ballot_application_school_elections.pdf OR

   • Email/call the Department and ask us to send one to you. absentee@delaware.gov /Phone: (302) 577-3464 OR

2. FILL OUT THE APPLICATION

   • Fill out the ballot application completely. https://elections.delaware.gov/pubs/pdfs/absentee_ballot_application_school_elections.pdf

3. SIGN THE APPLICATION

   • In Adobe Reader, select at the top of the page, use one of the two methods to sign the form, then select “Attach to email”, and send the email to the Department of Elections Office in your county, OR

   • In other PDF viewers, select the sign function, sign the form, and then select “Attach to email” and send the email to the Department of Elections Office in your county, OR

   • Print the form, sign it and then return it to the Department of Elections Office in your county by email, FAX or mail

4. YOUR BALLOT WILL COME IN THE MAIL – VOTE!

   • When it arrives, complete it by filling in the oval next to your choice(s) with a pen with dark ink

5. MAIL IN YOUR BALLOT

   • Fold and put the voted ballot in the Return Envelope received with the ballot, moisten the return envelope flap – DON’T LICK, seal the envelope, read the oath on the envelope, sign the oath, and drop the envelope in the U.S. Mail. (NOTE: The envelope is addressed & return postage is paid)
