POSITION: Plumbing Technician – Maintenance A – Essential Personnel
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Specialist
LOCATION: McCullough Maintenance Shop/Works at Locations throughout the District
HOURS: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

WORK YEAR: 12 Months
COMPENSATION: $37,779 – $59,880 – based upon confirmed experience and State criteria for Stipends and Skill Level

POSITION GOAL:
Responsible for repairing, operating and preventive maintenance for Colonial School District mechanical piping and plumbing systems and devices.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Maintenance A Level):
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Trade school training or other training acceptable to the district is also preferred.
- Physical ability to perform assigned tasks as assigned. The employee must be able to lift, push and/or move up to 50 pounds. He/she must also be able to work in extreme temperatures and/or weather conditions This job requires repetitive stooping, twisting and bending.
- Five years experience in plumbing/pipefitting industry preferred.
- Ability to perform tasks in the specific craft – Plumbing.
- Good moral character, honest, dependable and courteous.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with others.
- Comfort and skill with a variety of tools and testing equipment for the trade.
- Willingness to accept additional responsibilities as needed, as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance.
- Must be a self-starter with ability to work well as part of a team as well as independently.
- Must be able to manage work crew on projects.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Basic PC experience preferred.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Skilled Craftsman A Level):
- Same as requirements listed for Maintenance A Level
- Certificate as union journeyman or equivalent in the following field(s): Plumbing, Pipe Fitter; or
- Possesses current state license in any of the fields listed above; or
- Possesses two or more Hazardous Material Certifications from the State of Delaware OSHA, or the United States Environmental Protection Agency; or
- Is a Pipe Fitter who possesses an AWS or ASME Welding Certificate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities related to the District. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Responsible for installing and repairing plumbing/mechanical/piping systems.
- Inspect, diagnose problems and repair all boilers, circulating pumps, and equipment pertaining to hot water systems.
- Install and repair air compressors, reducing valves, gauges and piping.
- Maintain proficiency with new equipment related to water heating systems.
- Order new equipment and parts as needed.
- Responds to emergencies during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Required to work on snow removal crew.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL:
This position in the Colonial School District is considered an Essential Personnel position. Essential Personnel are required to be at work for emergencies during and outside of the scheduled workday, including weekends and holidays for duties including but not limited to:
- Snow removal
- Flooding in the building(s)
- Response to alarms
- Water damage after a storm
If, for some reason, the district closes or opens on an altered schedule, regardless of the message communicated by the District, you are expected to report to work on time or at the time stated by your supervisor.
