What: Pillow, towel and washcloth collection drive tallied by students

Why: Wilbur, Delaware City, and the Christiana Fire companies partnered to collect new towels,
washcloths, and pillows for local children after learning about the need from an organization called
The Northern Star Children’s Foundation, Inc. This foundation assists children who are living in
extreme poverty without basic necessities that many take for granted. “Most of the kids do not have
a pillow to lay their head on at night to get a good night sleep, and are using unsanitary scraps of
old towels after taking a bath or shower,” said foundation President Laurie Smith.
*Students in 4th-grade will count the donations from the fire companies and the school in the multi-
purpose room. Organizers and students will be available for interviews.
