At its meeting of August 14, 2018, the Colonial School District Board of Education declared a vacancy from Nominating District D. The Board of Education will accept nominations of candidates for appointment to the Board as a representative of Nominating District D.
Nominating District D generally includes the residential areas bounded by Route 58 on the south; Route 273 on the west; Marsh Lane on the north; and Route 40 on the east. Citizens residing in the Colonial School District may nominate any citizen who lives in Nominating District D, who is qualified by law to serve on the Board of Education, and who consents to the nomination. Citizens who live in Nominating District D may also nominate themselves. To qualify, a person must be a citizen of the state and resident of the district qualified to vote in a school board election. He or she may not hold a paid position subject to the rules and regulations of the school board.

Written nominations may be sent to the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. D. Dusty Blakey, at the Colonial School District Administration Building, 318 East Basin Road, New Castle, Delaware 19720. They must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday September 27, 2018. Nominations should include the nominee’s name, address, telephone number, and a statement that the person has agreed to be nominated. An information sheet will be given to each nominee to be completed and returned to the Board. The Board will schedule interviews with nominees.

At the Board of Education meeting of October 9, 2018, the Board will announce its decision. The person appointed will serve until June 30, 2019. An election will be held in May 2019, to determine who will serve as the Board member from Nominating District D from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020.
