Our Mission

At Pleasantville, we promise to provide education that ensures students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. We will foster safe and caring classrooms, design engaging and appropriate instruction based on best practice that meets the needs of diverse learners, and acknowledge that mistakes are opportunities for learning. We will strive to help students develop into respectful, self-sufficient community members. We will partner with families and outside resources to support students in and out of school.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere at Pleasantville that assists all students in succeeding academically, socially, and emotionally. Our students will learn to:
  •  Communicate effectively
  • Access, process, and apply knowledge,
  •  Use higher level thinking skills and creativity to solve problems
  •  Respect themselves and others in a society of diverse cultures
Pleasantville has an excellent staff dedicated to serving its community. Our main objective is to promote academic excellence for all of our students by providing them with a developmentally appropriate education geared to their needs. Our curriculum is based on the Colonial School District’s Board-approved curricula which is aligned with the state’s standards and performance indicators in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Our teachers utilize research-based methods to guide their instruction. Remediation for our students is offered through the reading resource teacher, Title I Program, special education classes, the Bridges Program, and the extra time program. Additional support for our students and their families is available from our nurse, guidance counselor, early intervention specialist, ESL teacher and educational diagnostician. Our staff has been provided with ample materials and equipment to support the teaching and learning process. We are proud of our students and their accomplishments. We are privileged to have the support of their parents. Pleasantville School offers an After-School Care Program that is operated in conjunction with The Jewish Community Center of Delaware. This program is designed for families who need the support and convenience of daily after-school care. The program includes a well-trained staff, homework time, sports, and special daily activities.
