What is a CSA share?
A farm’s CSA program is where individuals can choose to support the farm by purchasing a share in the farm at the beginning of the year. There are a set number of available shares each year. The purchase of a share supports the farm at the beginning of the year when the farm is putting out a large sum of money for seeds and supplies for the year. In return, the farm promises to do there best to supply a set amount of vegetables over a set period of time. CSAs have become a popular way for consumers to buy local and seasonal produce directly from the farm.
How does Penn Farm’s CSA work?
The CSA at Penn Farm lasts from late June to August (10 weeks). On Tuesdays from 12-5, shares are picked up at Wheelys Farmstand and Cafe. By participating in our CSA or “buying a share”, you will receive fresh produce weekly. A share is usually enough for a family of 4 to have vegetables throughout the week. This is a generalization as some families eat more or less vegetables.
Our CSA is a great way for Penn Farm, William Penn High School, and Colonial School District to provide a valuable service to our community. In return, this serves as a method of monetary support for Penn Farm and our Agriculture Related Programs at William Penn High School & Colonial School District.

The CSA benefits the students of Penn Farm by allowing students to be able to grow, sell, and answer any questions the consumers might have about the product. This also provides students with valuable customer service skills and experience.
Penn Farm’s CSA runs from June 18 – August 20 (10 Tuesdays) for $200. Pickup is at Wheelys Farmstand on Tuesdays from 12-5 pm.

CSA Shares are picked up at the Wheelys Farmstand. We do all our harvest sanitation, record keeping, and storage in an area at the back of the farmstand.
