Nutrition Promotion and Standards

Colonial’s Nutrition Services Department provides a wide range of services to students and staff including free and nutritious meals (breakfast and lunch).  Families are encouraged to visit the Nutrition Services website to learn more about menus, special dietary information, and payments.

The Division of Health and Wellness works closely with the Nutrition Services Department to assist families in accessing food.  Through a partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware, students and families have access to:

  • Backpack Program-Provides enrolled students with access to easily prepared meals over the weekend when school meals are not available at no cost.
  • Food Pantries-Provides families with access to food at no cost.

Families interested in learning more about either of these programs should contact their school to speak with the program coordinators.

Food Assistance
The Colonial School District is committed to supporting all students to have access to the support and services needed to have a successful educational experience.  WE want to ensure that you are aware of local resources available to your family if you are struggling with access to food.

If you are struggling with access to food, please contact your child’s school counselor or school nurse.  They will be able to provide you with resources available within the school and the local community.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Division of Health and Wellness at 302 323-2872 or Nutrition Services at 302 323-2743.
