We utilize the following Curriculum and Assessment tools to plan for instruction, implement lessons and activities, and share progress with families:

  • Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ)
    • FREE Developmental Screening tool used with our Typical Peers and our children with Speech Only IEPs.  Also offered for FREE for all Colonial children ages Birth-5 who reside in Colonial or attend an Early Learning Program in Colonial. Click here to learn more or to complete screenings for your child.
    • The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children receive Developmental Screening at the ages of 9 months, 18 months, 24-30 months, 36 months, and 48 months.
  • Conscious Discipline (CD)
    • All of our teachers and paraeducators have participated in CD training, and CD strategies are utilized in all of our preschool classrooms.
    • CD “equips educators to integrate social-emotional learning, discipline and self-regulation so they spend less time policing behavior and more time teaching vital life skills.”
  • Creative Curriculum (CC)
    • CC is a “comprehensive, research-based curriculum that features exploration and discovery as a way of learning.”
    • CC is the primary curriculum tool utilized by our staff.
  • Teaching Strategies Gold (TSG)
    • Staff use observation to collect anecdotal notes/data for all of the children in their classroom, then they upload this information into the online TSG portal.  There are 38 objectives on which the staff focus.
    • Staff use the data collected in TSG to create developmentally appropriate lesson plans that are personalized for each child’s learning level and to generate progress reports.
