Board of Education Meeting – December 2024
At December’s Board of Education meeting . . .
- The Board was treated to musical selections from the WPHS Concert Band and Choir as a dress rehearsal for their upcoming winter concerts.
- We recognized Breanna Hawkins, a 4th grader at Pleasantville
Every year we send holiday cards to our staff and ask our students to create holiday artwork to feature on our card. We are excited to announce that Pleasantville Elementary School’s own Breanna Hawkins, 4th grader, artwork was chosen as the work for the Colonial School District Holiday Card. Her artwork is the perfect mix of winter and holiday! Please join us in congratulating this budding artist! - We recognized Skylar Thomas a trusted and dependable bus driver in Colonial for almost 20 years.
He is a member of our community and avidly supports our students in any way he can! Skylar volunteered his time to our staff and families on Wednesday, November 20th by driving a school bus to the Route 9 Library to help distribute Thanksgiving Food baskets to some of our Colonial families in need during the District Equity Summit. His selfless dedication to our District and families is a true reminder of what the Power of WE is all about. - We recognized Dr. Crystal Lancour who has gone above and beyond in their work supporting our community through various events.
Dr. Crystal Lancour has gone above and beyond through her work with district-wide events such as the Colonial Equity Series and most recently leading our very popular math family game night held right here at William Penn. Her leadership has been vital to helping others from providing support through food drives or creating engaging events that are fun and educational for everyone involved. We thank Dr. Lancour for being one of the E in WE. - We paid tribute to longtime teacher Barbara Foxx and the Foxx Family
The Foxx family recently made a generous donation to support reading at William Penn High School in memory of Barbara Foxx, a long-time Colonial English Teacher who passed away in November of 2022. Through this donation, the District was able to purchase a bookshelf, chair, and a set of Barb’s favorite books for the Barb Foxx Book Nook. We honored Barb’s memory early this evening with a dedication ceremony and now we would like to recognize the family for their commitment to Colonial Nation. Watch the ceremony at https://youtu.be/BEEIIgGZmfs - A math lesson from Dr. Lancour
The Board learned more about our efforts in our math curriculum from math Supervisor Dr. Crystal Lancour. They also participated in a few math activities so they could get first hand experience on what the students are learning. - And last but not least, we had a special Colonial Alumni stop by to wish the Board and the Colonial community a very happy holiday. The one and only Santa Claus (Also known as Jim Zimmerman, WP class of 1989) came by to wrap up the December meeting and spread some holiday cheer amongst the members of the board.
