Chadia Garyeazon has been named the Colonial School District’s 2027 Teacher of the Year, a recognition that reflects her passion for students, dedication to learning, and commitment to the Power of WE.

A third-grade teacher at Southern Elementary School, Chadia has spent the past eight years serving students and families in Colonial. Her journey in education began in 2017 after earning her Associate’s Degree in Early Education from Delaware Technical Community College. She started her career at Colwyck (CEEP) as a paraeducator before becoming a classroom teacher in 2021 while completing her bachelor’s degree through a concurrent placement program. Since then, she has continued to grow professionally, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a certification in K-12 Special Education from Wilmington University, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Western Governors University, and most recently becoming certified to teach Secondary English in 2026.

Chadia believes every child deserves a positive, safe, and engaging school experience. Her classroom is built around relationships, emotional support, and creating meaningful learning experiences that meet students where they are. Whether she is turning lessons into songs, taking learning outside, or incorporating students’ personal interests into instruction, she works tirelessly to ensure every child feels valued, respected, and capable of success.

Her passion for teaching began at an early age. As a child, she would line up her dolls and pretend to teach in her bedroom classroom. That lifelong love of children and learning eventually inspired her to pursue a career where she could help students grow academically, emotionally, and personally.

Chadia embodies Colonial’s “Power of WE” each day through her boldness, inclusiveness, and authenticity. She embraces change, encourages students to take risks, and creates a classroom culture where all learners feel accepted and supported. Above all, she strives to be genuine with her students and encourages them to confidently be themselves.

Outside of the classroom, Chadia is a proud wife and mother who loves music and dancing. Originally from the Bronx, New York, she brings energy, heart, and positivity into everything she does.
