Dear Parent(s), Guardians and Seniors:

The Senior Prom/Semi-Formal is scheduled for Friday, May 7, 2020, at the Hyatt Place Wilmington Riverfront, from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm.  Dinner will be between 7:00 pm and 7:45 pm.  This event is only open to students who have met all requirements to be considered to be in the 12th grade at William Penn High School.

Tickets
• The cost of the prom ticket this year will be $85 in cash or money order, ONLY – no personal checks will be accepted. 
• Tickets will be on sale beginning the week of April 19th and continue until all tickets are sold.
• Tickets will be sold at William Penn High School in the Main Lobby from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm until sold out.
There will be a limited number of tickets sold and all ticket sales will be on a first-come basis.   
• Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable – No Exceptions and No Refunds.
• All students must enter by 8:00 pm; any students arriving late will not be permitted in – No Exceptions and No Refunds. 

Please review the following important guidelines and restrictions:

  1. The Prom/Semi-Formal will only be open to 12th Grade students who have met all credit requirements; No students from other grades and no outside guests will be permitted to attend.
  2.   All guests will be required to wear masks at all times, except when eating and drinking.
  3.   Students will be expected to follow all rules and expectations around social distancing and any additional rules set by DPH,  Colonial School District and the Hyatt Place Wilmington Riverfront. 
  4.   Whether you are experiencing symptoms or not, DPH strongly recommends getting a Covid-19 test before and after participating in prom activities.  If you are not symptomatic, William Penn nurse will be offering optional Rapid Antigen Testing on Wednesday, May 5th, prior to prom, and again on Wednesday, May 12th, after prom.  More information concerning how to sign up for rapid antigen testing with the school will be shared at the time of ticket purchase.
    1. If you are symptomatic, you should not attend the prom under any circumstances.  Please contact your primary care physician and the school nurse if you begin experiencing any symptoms.
    2. Governor Carney and DPH announced on April 6th that  Delaware’s Covid-19 vaccination program is open to Delawareans aged 16 or older.  Delawareans who are 16+ may now register for the State of Delaware’s Covid-19 vaccination waiting list at vaccinerequest.delaware.gov.
  5. The event will be held from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm.   Students should arrive no later than 8:00 pm – You will need to plan for traffic.  Any students arriving after this time will not be permitted to attend and will not receive a refund.
  6. Per regulations, indoor events can only host up to 150 people; This number includes staff chaperones, therefore ticket sales will be extremely limited. Tickets will be sold on a first-come basis and will be non-refundable and non-transferable.  
  7.   The Hyatt Place Riverfront Wilmington has an outside patio that can be utilized by students.  Mask must continuously be worn and rules for social distancing must be observed while on the patio.  Students may not leave the venue using any of the patio exits.  Staff will be there to supervise.
  8. Tables will be pre-assigned in groups of 6 students.  If you would like to sit with a group of friends, groups of tickets will need to be purchased at the same time in order to reserve the seat/table.  There is no guarantee that all students will be able to reserve seating. No tables or seats will be reserved until the ticket(s) have been purchased.
  9. Dancing and socializing will be limited and may not be allowed due to social distancing.
  10. Dinner will be served between 7:00 pm and 7:45 pm.  Dinner will be a plated meal served by Hyatt Place Wilmington Riverfront staff.  Meal selections will be made at the time of the ticket purchase.
  11. As this is a formal/semi-formal event, students will need to follow all guidelines around formal/semi-formal dress (see below for more information).  The Colonial School District Code of Conduct and Expectations of Student Dress will be enforced at all times.  Students who are dressed inappropriately will not be permitted to enter the event and will not receive a refund.
  12. Parents/Family members cannot come to the Hyatt Place Wilmington Riverfront to take pictures.  Families should remain in their vehicles if you are transporting a student to and from the prom.
  13. Any and all restrictions/guidelines are subject to change without notice and Colonial School District/William  Penn High School and the Hyatt Place Wilmington Riverfront will require all students and staff to follow any changes or updates.

Guidelines Around Formal Dress:

As Prom is a formal affair, students are asked to dress appropriately in formal attire.  Please note the following dress code:
(For this year’s event, we are allowing students to wear semi-formal attire however, all attire must still fall within the guidelines listed below.)

Males: Tastefully Formal Females: Tastefully Formal
  • Suit Jacket
  • Dress Pants (long)
  • Buttoned shirt (no turtlenecks or tee shirts)
  • Tie
  • Or Tuxedo
  • Dress shoes (no boots or sneakers – THIS INCLUDES DRESS BOOTS AND DRESS SNEAKERS) 
  • No revealing of breasts, cleavage, midriffs, thighs, buttocks or sides.  The backside of the dress should be 4 inches above the small of the back; sides should be covered.
  • Jackets, vests and shawls will not be acceptable coverage, if when they are removed, the dress reveals any of the above-mentioned body parts.
  • Dress shoes (no boots or sneakers – THIS INCLUDES DRESS BOOTS AND DRESS SNEAKERS)

 

The Colonial School District Code of Conduct and Expectations of Student Dress will be enforced at all times, with the exception of strapless/spaghetti strap dresses.  There will be no pinning of dresses at the door.  If you think your dress may be questionable, please feel free to show Mrs. Berrios/Ms. Brewington the front and back of your dress by sending a picture via email.   Students who do not follow the guidelines, will not be permitted to enter the prom at any time during that evening.  Once again, tickets are nonrefundable.

Parents:

We are requesting that parents not come to the Hyatt Place Wilmington Riverfront to take pictures.  If you come, we will have to ask security to ask you to please leave the premises as this is a closed affair that is not open to the public.  Thank you in advance for adhering to the rules.

Prom Night Tips for Parents

  • Discuss the school’s prom rules with your child and the consequences for violating them.
  • Encourage seatbelt use – the best accessory!
  • Communicate with other parents and school officials.
  • Stay up until your child returns home
