Re: Advanced Placement Exams 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians of Advanced Placement students,

The information below pertains to you if you/your child is enrolled in at least one Advanced Placement (AP) course. If a student passes the course and receives a score of 3 or higher on the AP Exam for that course, there is a great chance that colleges and universities will count this towards credits at their post-secondary school. This is a great opportunity for your child.

We understand the cost of AP exams is great; in fact, the cost is $94 per exam. To show our commitment to the community and students, the Colonial School District will cover ALL of the exam costs for students taking their AP Exams during the 2020-2021 school year. All students who took 1st semester AP courses should have already registered for their exam with their AP Teacher(s). If they wish to register for a 1st semester AP exam now, a $40 late fee applies. Students with Fall course AP exam questions can contact Ms. Handy-Hayes directly with questions about changing their AP exam order.

All students taking 2nd semester AP courses must register for their exam(s) with their AP Teacher(s) by March 5th.

Important reminders for those taking AP exams:

    1. Students MUST be registered through AP Classroom in order to register for AP exams. Students & teachers have been working on AP Classroom registrations together. Ask AP teachers for your Join Code(s).
    2. When logged into AP Classroom, students must select “yes” to order an exam for each individual AP course.
    3. In order to adhere to College Board deadlines, commitment to take the exam is due by October 31st, 2020 for 1st semester students and March 5th, 2021 for 2nd semester students. If students register for their AP exam(s) late, a $40 (non-refundable) late fee per exam will be applied.
    4. If, after registering for an AP exam, the student changes their mind about taking any exam(s), the student will be able to unregister for that exam. AP Teachers & students must alert the AP Coordinator (Rachel Handy-Hayes) with these cancellations ASAP to make adjustments to the exam order.

We are excited for your child to show their college readiness through our AP program. Our teachers are working hard to ensure they have the necessary knowledge by the time of the exam. Further information about AP exams can be found at http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/home.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact your student’s AP Teacher.

Thank you and good luck to the students! I am confident that they will do well and make WPHS proud!
Sincerely,
Lisa Brewington
Principal
