In the 2013 referendum, we asked for funds to continue current operations & make targeted investments in technology & curriculum.

Here’s what we did with those dollars:

Staff/Operations

  • Hired 54 additional classroom teachers to maintain class size and support our increasing student population
  • Hired 4 additional counselors to address behavioral and socio-emotional concerns
  • Hired 67 additional paraeducators for classroom and special education support
  • Hired 9 additional therapists (physical and speech) to provide services to our students with disabilities
  • Added one Assistant Principal position while staying below the state allocated number of administrator positions.
  • Increased School Resource Officers by one to enhance safety of students
  • Started $8 million district-wide energy efficiency project which will save energy expenses without passing on any additional expenses to our taxpayers
  • DECREASED many operational budgets to maximize funds available for classroom and support staff

Technology

  • Increased the number of desktops, laptops and tablets in the schools from 6,500 to 11,600
  • Purchased 6,250 devices over the past four years
  • Established a standard replacement cycle for Staff devices
  • Implemented District-wide wireless network
    • Wireless access points in every classroom and common area
  • Increased Bandwidth to every school
    • 2014 → all buildings increased to 100MB/s from 10MB/s
    • 2015 → Increased William Penn to 1GB/s
    • 2016 → Increased George Read, Gunning Bedford, McCullough, and Wilbur to 1GB/s
  • Added five new staff members
    • Two full time field techs for the schools
    • Three contractors providing support for the schools
  • Implemented a district-wide Learning Management System (Schoology)
