Mentoring

Mentoring for Novice Educators

Year 1

Novice educators in the Year 1 program are assigned a building mentor who will support them in their first year teaching! Some components of the program include completion of monthly checklists, observations of experienced teachers and Year 1 meetings.

Year 2

Novice educators in the Year 2 program will continue working with their building mentor. The focus of this year is on goal setting and growth. Some components of the program include completion of monthly checklists, goal sheets, observations of experienced teachers and Year 2 meetings.

Year 3

In the 3rd year of the mentoring program novice educators will work with different educators in the district to grow their professional networks. This program can be completed in several different options from participating in an article study to participating in STEP or Colonial Educator Institute.

Year 4

The final year of the mentoring program is all about professional growth. This is the most personalized year of the program. Educators can choose between multiple options including approved graduate course work, STEP, CEI or traditional professional development.

I am looking forward to learning and growing in the Colonial School District. I have heard that this is a great district to be in as a first year teacher and I can tell from the last few days already that I have a wealth of support available to me.

Onboarding Teams

Each of our schools has an Onboarding Team, their purpose is to help all of our new hires feel welcome and supported before the year even starts! Contact Katie or your building principal for information about your Onboarding Team.

For Teachers New to Delaware

In Colonial we have a program designed specifically for experienced educators who are coming to Delaware from another state. Educators in this program will be paired with a building mentor to complete checklists designed to help an experienced teacher transition into their first year in Delaware.
