Students, Kindergarten through 5th grade, at Wilbur Elementary School visit the S.T.E.M. Lab as a related arts special. Students dig deeper into Science Technology Engineering and Math as they spend one week prepping, building and testing machines they create. While enforcing project-based learning, Wilbur Elementary is capturing students’ interests and provoking serious thinking as the students acquire and apply new knowledge in a problem solving context.
Kindergarten, first and second grade explore basic mechanical principles such as gears, levers, pulleys, wheels and axles. Students investigate force, buoyancy and balance while solving problems through design.
Third and fourth grade uses software media to design and create working models and uses digital technology to document, structure and explain ideas.
Fifth graders are building and designing renewable energy models, as well as discussing work, force, motion and power.
