New Castle, DE- The Colonial School District today announced New Castle Elementary School ( NCES) has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the I AM A LEADER FOUNDATION to support its transition into a Leader in Me school.
The Leader in Me program teaches children leadership, responsibility, accountability, problem solving, and self-direction. It also provides teachers with a logical and balanced process to help NCES design the culture that reflects its vision of the ideal school. Through this process, students will practice the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Kids, which was developed by Stephen Covey who was recognized as one of Time magazine’s 25 most influential Americans. Covey was one of the world’s foremost leadership authorities and organizational experts.
NCES Student Advisor Rich Bryson applied for the grant saying, “This program will give our students the life skills necessary to be College and Career Ready. It is imperative to stress to our boys and girls that every student is important and every person can be a leader. The world is a challenging place and it is our job as educators to prepare students for those challenges. The Leader in Me, process will give students those life skills to allow them to achieve greatness in all aspects of their lives.”
NCES will introduce the Leader in Me program in the 2015-2016 school year.
