Investigations in Number, Data, and Space: Math

Investigations is the math curriculum that Colonial School District uses. It is a K-5 program that was developed at TERC in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This program intends to children of different ages and backgrounds understand the foundations of number and operations, geometry, data, measurement, and early algebra. This website provides helpful tools for teachers, students and parents, including access to the curriculum by grade level and math content, as well as a “For Families” section.


FOSS: Science

FOSS (Full Option Science System) is the inquiry based science curriculum that Colonial School District uses. The website has a great deal of information about the science kits, along with games and activities organized by grade level. There is an information section for parents and teachers, along with articles and newsletters.


Official Harcourt Website: Social Studies

Harcourt is the company that provides Colonial School District with their reading curriculum, as well as their social studies curriculum. On this website, you can find information about the curriculum, as well as contact information. They also provide links to their eStores for teachers and parents.


Official 6 + 1 Trait Writing Website

This writing model uses common language for teachers and students to communicate about the various characteristics of writing and establishes clear examples of what good writing looks like. The traits taught include ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation.


Official Handwriting Without Tears Website

Handwriting Without Tears is the handwriting program that we use in Colonial School District. This program begins with printing in Kindergarten and continues through to cursive writing. On this website, there is a link for parents that contains a great deal of information about this program, and things that you can do at home.
