New Castle, DE: The Colonial School District will become the first in the state to open a community-based Wellness Center in an elementary school on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at 9:00 am.

Delaware Governor Jack Markell will be among the dignitaries to participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Eisenberg Elementary School, located at 27 Landers Lane, New Castle, DE 19720. The center, operated by The Life Health Center (LHC) will initially serve students and their families at Eisenberg while offering limited services to middle school students needing physical examinations to participate in sports. A nurse practitioner will be on-site to diagnose illnesses and write prescriptions, and behavioral health care services will also be available. Long-term plans include offering medical, dental, and eye care services to students and families living in the entire district. Patients without medical insurance will be offered assistance in securing health care coverage.

“The services provided by LHC are sorely needed along the Route 9 corridor,” says Colonial Superintendent Dr. Dusty Blakey. “I strongly believe we must offer comprehensive health care to children before they reach high school where Wellness Centers are traditionally located, just like the one we have at William Penn; another first in the state.”

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, refreshments will be served.
