The Colonial School District (CSD) was made aware in June of initial results for lead levels in the water of all Delaware schools. At that time, CSD was advised by the Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Department of Education (DOE) that public notifications were not necessary because more extensive testing would be done over a period of time and that final results would indicate action steps needed moving forward. Those initial tests indicated some buildings in CSD are impacted. As of yesterday, DPH confirmed only the water in N3 (formerly known as Wallace Wallin) is considered to be above the threshold for consumption.

The other CSD schools listed in the DPH report with elevated levels did not reach a threshold for any health threats. Below are the results that we received in June detailing all CSD schools.

  1. Colonial Early Education Program: No Action needed
  2. Carrie Downie Elementary School: No Action Needed
  3. Castle Hills Elementary School: Continued / Additional Monitoring: One sink
  4. Harry O. Eisenberg Elementary School: No Action Needed
  5. Pleasantville Elementary School: No Action Needed
  6. New Castle Elementary School: No Action Needed
  7. Southern Elementary School: No Action Needed
  8. Wilbur Elementary School: Continued / Additional Monitoring: One classroom sink
  9. Wilmington Manor Elementary School: No Action Needed
  10. George Read Middle School: No Action Needed
  11. Gunning Bedford Middle School: DPH and the district working together to reduce exposures: Two classroom sinks
  12. McCullough Middle School: Continued / Additional Monitoring: One hand washing sink
  13. William Penn main campus: Continued / Additional Monitoring: Two hand washing sinks
Details for N3 are listed above
  14. John G. Leach School: Continued / Additional Monitoring: One sink

Regardless, CSD is making plans to rectify problems areas or fixtures in those buildings, and indications are the water main outside of N3 and supply lines inside the building will be fully replaced. As always, CSD continues to make the safety and well-being of students and staff a top priority.
